Diabolo Buyers Guide

We carry a huge selection of diabolos at JugglingStore.com. Daily we get phones calls with questions from diabloist, diabolo enthusiasts and parents shopping for the best diabolo for them. We are going to attempt to talk about the different diabolos available and which one would be the best choice for you. There are several factors we are going to explore; size, weight, design and the application for the diabolo.

Size:
Diabolos are made by several different manufacturers and come in various sizes. There are four sizes available at JugglingStore.com; Small, Medium, Large, and Performers. By far the two sizes most diabloist choose is either the medium or large.

Medium:

This is the most common size and is around 4 Inches (100mm) diameter and generally weighs around 7 ounces (200g). This size is great for learners and for most diabolo tricks. Due to the smaller size they are also preferred for 2 or more diabolos on one string. We have them available in a large range of models, colors and prices.

Large:

Another very popular size is the 5 Inch (130mm) diameter diabolo. The Large diabolo is preferred by performers due to the weight and visibility. Many of the tricks are easier to do with the larger diabolos, but they are also much harder on your arms because they are heavier. Large diabolos are great for tricks because they have good balance and are easier to control.

Children:

Over the years, diabolos have became a very popular item for children, this is due to the fact that many schools, camps and clubs have started using diabolos in their educational and recreational activities. The diabolos we recommend for children range in price from around $20 to $40 dollars. If you feel your child is going to stick with the diabolo and their showing coordination, patience, dedication, and interest in following instruction, we would recommend the higher end diabolos. If you feel it is going to be a short lived phase, you might want to consider the less expensive diabolos.

We also want to mention that all the diabolos we sell at JugglingStore.com are excellent quality, and you really can't make a bad decision.

Our most common question is what diabolo should I buy my child? We would suggest getting either a Medium or Large diabolo, those are the ones with are 4-5 inches in diameter.

If you want to invest in the best diabolo, we would recommend the Finesse. We like this diabolo because it is a large diabolo, yet has the weight of many of the medium sized diabolos. This makes using the diabolo easier on your arms and it still has all the benefits a large diabolo.

Of the medium diabolos we've found that the Millennium and the Athena to be a very popular choice. Both of these diabolos have a great spin, made of quality materials and have been extremely popular with kids and camps.

Advanced Diaboloist:

We sell a complete line of diabolos for advanced diabolist, professionals and those looking for superior quality of diabolos. These diabolos are going to have all the features of a great diabolo; Professional design, quality components and accurate balancing. We consider the top two manufactures of diabolos to be Henrys and Mister Babache.

Henrys is known for their Circus and Jazz diabolos. Many performers use their strings, which have now become an industry standard by which all other strings are measured. They are also known for their quality handsticks, the most popular being the Henrys Aluminum and Carbon Handsticks Short.

Mister Babache is best known for theirFinesse diabolo. This diabolo has been engineered and re-engineered and now proven to be one of the best diabolos in the world. Another popular diabolo is their Millennium and Harlequin models. Mister Babache has now put our two very popular handsticks, the Energy (a flexible handstick) and the Xtreme (a stiff handstick).

Common Questions:

How long should the string be?
String length this largely a personal preference, however most people have the strings from chest to nose height. What we recommend is shoulder height. Here is how you can accomplish this; Stand on one stick and how your arm in front of you. Then you measure this length and cut the string, this method should make your string about shoulder height.

How should I tie the string?
There are several ways to tie diabolo string which are effective. We've put together a little illustration of the way we suggest. First, put the diabolo string through the hole on the diabolo stick. Then tie a knot at the end of the stick. Once this is done, follow the illustrations and pull tight.
